brandy flip cocktail from mambos dream beveragesHave you ever heard about a Brandy Flip? If you have not, then you are in for a pleasant surprise.  This concoction is for brandy lovers and is easy to make.

What is Brandy? The simple definition, according to the Oxford Dictionary,  is ” a strong alcoholic spirit distilled from wine or fermented fruit juice”.   The more detailed explanation of what Brandy is claims that it derives it’s name from the Dutch word “brandewijn” which means “burned wine”.   Most brandy is consumed mostly as a cocktail but is also a popular cooking ingredient.

There are many brands of Brandy and as expected price runs the spectrum. Unlike other alcoholic beverages, this ingredient should not be selected based on price alone. In this instance price does matter as the better blends will result in a more enjoyable cocktail.

According to contributions about this beverage on Wikipedia

“Brandy generally contains 35–60% alcohol by volume (70–120 US proof) and is typically taken as an after-dinner drink. Some brandies are aged in wooden casks, some are coloured with caramel colouring to imitate the effect of aging, and some brandies are produced using a combination of both aging and colouring. Brandy is also produced from fermented fruits other than grapes, but these products are typically named eaux-de-vie, especially in France. In some countries, fruit flavouring or some other flavouring may be added to a spirit that is called “brandy”.
